The gazebos along the River Lee at Ware were built in the 1700's, they overlook the river originally from the rear of merchants' houses and coaching inns along the old Ware High Street.
Access to see the gazebos is over a small footbridge leading off the road to Ware Station and along the tow path.
A few of the gazebos still have a pier access to the river, the nearest one originally had access from underneath the gazebo.
The Ware gazebos are unique for being intact as a large group and still routinely used by their owners.
Many of the gazebos are constructed from timber but a few are built with brick retaining walls.
This is not a gazebo but provides a covered access to a boat drawn up to the wall, you can just see the steps rising up to the grounds.
A feature of this gazebo is a nice bay overhanging the river.
A single view of the brick built gazebo.
The original gazebo has been demolished and extended in the 1900's.
This is shot downriver.
Clearly the architect for the new building on the right visited the site and made certain his design blended in ...
... and the gazebos have the pleasure of viewing a nice set of apartments on the opposite river bank.
